RED DEER—Employees at Red Deer Polytechnic, formerly Red Deer College, have voted to join the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).
Approximately 100 non-academic staff joined the existing AUPE bargaining unit at Red Deer Polytechnic. The new members bring the total AUPE membership at RDP to almost 500.
“We are proud to welcome these workers to AUPE,” says AUPE Vice-President Darren Graham. “We know there is strength in numbers, and when our numbers grow so does our strength at the bargaining table.”
Members at Red Deer Polytechnic join the more than 82,000 other AUPE members who are in bargaining this year, a record for AUPE.
“With all the challenges working people are facing these days, solidarity is more important than ever,” Graham says. “Fighting for what you deserve from your employer is difficult, but it's easier when 100 of your fellow workers join the fight for a better collective agreement.”
Bargaining with Red Deer Polytechnic begins July 30.
AUPE is western Canada’s largest union, standing 98,000 members strong.
