Despite a long pause, we’re still waiting for a monetary proposal
As reported to you previously, the employer told your negotiating team last March that uncertainty around provincial funding rendered them unable to put forward a monetary proposal. As a result, bargaining was paused.
When we returned to the table on Mar. 2, 2022, your negotiating team was disappointed when the employer did not table their monetary proposal.
Despite that frustration, we were able to use the day to sign off three additional non-monetary items:
- Article 14 Medical Disability - renewed as current language
- Article 22 Maternity and Parental Leave - updated to be consistent with the Employment Standards Code
- Article 33 Union/Employer Relations – added a provision for the union to provide new employees with a union orientation during the employer's orientation period.
The employer committed to presenting a proposal on monetary issues when we reconvene on April 4. We also have May 24 confirmed to continue bargaining.
Remember that your current collective agreement remains in effect. If you feel it’s not being followed, or if you’re having problems at work, please talk to a Union Steward or reach out to AUPE’s Members’ Resource Centre at 1-800-232-7284 and they will put you in touch with your Membership Services Officer.
If you have any questions or feedback about this bargaining update, please contact a member of your negotiating team.
