CBI Home Health: A Disappointing Monetary Offer

Bargaining Update for CBI Home Health Local 047 Chapter 008

Jun 28, 2022

Our employer and government must value our work appropriately

Text only block

CBI has offered no monetary increases for a majority of staff until 2023 – far too long to wait considering our contract expired at the end of 2020. The proposed increases are minimal and fail to bring compensation at CBI Home Health even close to what other HCAs and LPNs across the province are paid. In addition to the disheartening wage proposals, CBI proposedno improvements to transportation allowances or mileage claims.

We cannot stand for this. Like many Albertans, we are all struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living. Gas, food, bills – all these costs and many more are increasing, and our wages are not keeping pace. How can CBI expect us to survive without improved compensation? We’ve seen the impact as we see more and more coworkers leave for positions with higher wages and more stability.

CBI says the Government of Alberta is behind their stinginess. Though the government has announced they are improving funding for home care, no details or timelines for that funding are apparently available. CBI claims they cannot provide an improved offer until the government has committed funding and AHS has provided them details on what their funding allowance will be.

We understand and share your frustrations. We know we need higher wages and more stability, and we need them now. Your negotiating team remains committed to fighting for the enhancements you deserve – but we need your support.

Your negotiating team is developing a plan to provide more opportunities for you to engage in the bargaining process. Bargaining resumes in September and we will keep you posted throughout. In the meantime, please mark your calendars for our next virtual member meeting on July 28 at 7 p.m. and always feel free to reach out to your team with any questions, comments, or concerns.
