LOU maintains members’ rights under Collective Agreement despite contracting out of services.
We are happy to announce The Compass Group and Agecare have responded and signed the Letter of Understanding (LOU) linked below this update.
As a result, the LOU enshrines what has been discussed to date and provides assurance to our members that their interests are being protected. This is a positive step forward in ensuring a smooth and fair transition for our members and the affected employees.
We would like to thank all those involved in the negotiations, including the employer and The Compass Group, for their cooperation in reaching this agreement. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
However, while we have passed this hurdle, we are still fighting for a fair collective agreement at the bargaining table. As you know, this contract is long overdue to be settled, and we appreciate your patience in this matter. While we have made progress in some areas, we still remain one of the lowest paid GSS groups employed by Agecare and in Alberta across employers. This is unacceptable, and we will continue to fight for fair wages and benefits for our members. We are scheduled for mediation on May 15 and May 19, and we hope a mediator can help resolve this matter.
We will continue to work hard to ensure that your rights and benefits are protected, and we will keep you updated on any developments. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our union. Together, we can achieve a fair and just contract.
