Support CBI Home Health members in the fight for compensation, transparency, and regulation
The Government of Alberta (GOA) is consistently failing home care workers and clients. Despite the GOA’s commitment to grow the home care sector, with $893 million committed in this year’s budget, there is no plan in motion to allocate those funds and ensure quality care is being delivered to clients.
We know that there has been no action by Alberta Health Services (AHS) or the GOA because CBI Home Health’s contract with AHS was only temporarily extended and not updated for the long-term. Workers are being left in precarious conditions without a guarantee of their wages, hours, and benefits, or even of employment. Even the $2.00/hour wage top up that so many frontline workers count on is set to expire soon; there has once again been no communication on whether the top up will be extended or ended permanently.
It is not just the funding; home care is suffering from a complete lack of transparency and regulation. CBI Home Health workers are concerned that a possible influx of funding will not address the core problems in their working conditions or improve care for their clients.
Home care is essential to clients because it allows them to stay in their own homes and maintain a degree of autonomy and independence. Join CBI Home Health members in calling on the Government of Alberta to give home care the attention that it deserves by sending the email below to your local MLA, Minister of Health, Minister of Jobs, Economy, and Northern Development, Official Opposition Health Critic, and Official Opposition Labour Critic and asking them to advocate for home care.
