Essential Services Agreement negotiations commence
Your negotiating team and the employer met for informal mediation with independent mediator Mr. Michael Dyer on Feb. 9 and 10. The employer tabled a comprehensive proposal which, unfortunately, falls short of our monetary demands. We were able, however, to make some headway on some non-monetary items. Although we are making some headway the major monetary issues still fall short of the Union demands.
AUPE Essential Services Department has started the process of negotiating an Essential Services Agreement (ESA) with the Employer. Alberta’s labour relations laws require that an ESA be finalized and filed with the Alberta Labour Relations Board (ALRB) prior to parties being able to request formal mediation.
Informal mediation dates are scheduled for Apr. 19 – 21, with your negotiating team meeting the day prior to continue to formulate our response to the employer’s proposal. We remain optimistic that we will be able to reach a tentative agreement with the assistance of the independent mediator.
Remember that your current collective agreement remains in effect. If you feel it’s not being followed, or if you’re having problems at work, please talk to a Union Steward or reach out to AUPE’s Members’ Resource Centre at 1-800-232-7284 and they will put you in touch with your Membership Services Officer.
If you have any question or concerns about bargaining, please reach out to your negotiating team.
