Mobilization meetings coming up in rural Alberta, Edmonton, Calgary
EDMONTON – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees is hosting eleven meetings in March, with more meetings being scheduled regularly, as part of its member mobilization campaign.
“Mobilization is about standing together with our other AUPE members to protect public services,” said AUPE President Guy Smith. “We’re in a situation where cuts to essential services like education, government services, and health care are having a direct and negative impact on the level and quality of services Albertans rely upon.”
That’s why it’s so important for members to attend mobilization meetings in their areas, Smith said. “Get to know the other AUPE members in your worksites and communities. Talk about what you can do locally to take our message to your local politicians. Stand together, not just for yourselves and for the other members of the union, but for all Albertans, and protect public services.”
Mobilization meetings will take place in Didsbury (Mar. 5), Edmonton (Mar. 8, 9, and 10), Calgary (Mar. 8) Smoky Lake (Mar. 9), Mayerthorpe (Mar. 10), and Lac La Biche (Mar. 15) before the middle of March, with an additional four currently scheduled after that in various communities. A full list of mobilization meetings can be found on the AUPE Mobilization 2010 page and on the Events calendar.
