JASPER – The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees’ ninth annual Labour School opens today with remarks from Executive Secretary-Treasurer Bill Dechant at 6 p.m.

AUPE’s Labour School provides advanced union education to AUPE activists, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter. The courses aim to help committed members deal with the challenges faced by union activists and to represent the union’s members more effectively.

Six courses are offered at this year’s Labour School:

  • Leadership
  • Union Counselling
  • Advanced Steward Instruction
  • Duty to Accommodate
  • Organizing
  • Direct Action

AUPE invites local media to attend the opening session, or to arrange another time to attend the school during the week.

AUPE is Alberta’s largest union, with more than 73,000 members throughout the province.
