Deadline to register for COPA election seminars approaching
EDMONTON – AUPE’s Committee on Political Action is encouraging members to sign up soon for the pre-election seminars for members interested in running for political office or volunteering for campaigns. The seminars will take place in Calgary and Edmonton
“The deadline to register for these seminars is March 5, and I hope to see both sessions filled,” said AUPE Vice President Glen Scott, who chairs the committee. “There will be lots of good information about the different phases of an election, and how to run a campaign effectively with a small budget.”
Scott indicated that participants will get valuable information from experienced campaign organizers and elected officials. “Our committee is committed to helping our members get involved in the democratic process,” he said. “Alberta needs progressive candidates and campaign volunteers in all parties and at all levels of government who understand the importance of public services in their communities.”
The Calgary seminar will be held on April 15, 2010, and the Edmonton seminar on April 22, 2010, and will be limited to 25 participants in each seminar.
