Summer Town Halls, had me a blast

This year of bargaining is unlike anything you’ve experienced so far – that’s because AUPE members from every sector are facing one crisis after another. 

Our issues vary from worksite to worksite, but we all share in the same struggle for better and stronger collective agreements. Whether it’s stagnant wages up against the inflated cost of living, short-staffing at a time of population growth, or threats to job security because of political agendas, these issues impact all of us. 

In response, AUPE members are organizing dozens of town halls throughout June to talk about achieving the agreements we deserve at the bargaining table. Conversations are at the heart of what we do, so there is no better way to understand the issues and prepare for what’s to come. 

“Members are fed up and frustrated with their employers,” says AUPE President Guy Smith. “We all know how important this moment is, and that’s why we’re seizing it.” 

More than 82,000 AUPE members begin bargaining this year, and many groups have started already. We have the power and numbers to win the collective agreements we deserve, but only if we’re organized to stand up and fight. 

“Members are engaging at an unprecedented scale right now,” says Smith. “We need everyone to attend these town halls so we are prepared to take action, when we need to, to support our negotiating teams, each other, and ourselves.”
